Once More Unto The Zoom, Dear Friends. No You're On Mute! Guildford Shakespeare Company's Henry V

Updated: Aug 21, 2021

Not sure how they got the props, but with the aid of some green screen, some props and Zoom boxes we are in the play of Hervy V; Zoomin' to Southampton and France, and back again! Some nice touches using Iphones etc and working present circumstances into the play. The circle of an 'o' of the theatre becomes a phone and APPS!!!!

I love the speeches - this Henry V did his speeches in a moving, reflective way. John Falstaff and co written out. I wish they'd write out the Irishman, Scotsman, Welshman - the stereotypes are cringeworthy and not funny, and I don't get the forced leek eating or the wearing of a leek on a hat as a badge of pride. I guess, just as now, every era has it's pride, stereotypes, racism and prejudices and Shakespeare makes us look in a mirror at our attitudes. Henry sneaking round the camp to check the mood incignitio is always good though.

And, ha ha, Actor V!!!!

Southampton! Not changed much and nice use of clubbing. drinking, bender montage to get us there...

This means war - dogs of war! and some tennis balls....

Breaching the breach!

Sacre bleu! Learning English lessons have taken a wildcard turn....

They did use some nice sunlit, in a garden. soft focus Zooms for Princess Kate of France as a dream vision....
