High octane, high drama ballet! Could see the joins a little (but it was originally created for Rudolf Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn). Wonderfully expressive; passionately acted out and danced - at one moment, the ballerina is in real tears. Not sure who the man with the beard was; Armand was a bit of a cad who publicly rejected Marguerite, humiliating her by ripping off her necklace and hurling money at her; coming back to her just as she died. Did he not notice her coughing fits? Think Marguerite and the mysterious man with a beard would have been a better story - he seems more reliable and less horrid in public, appearing to be caring for her as she nears her end.
Ardent, longing, beautiful, lyrical...gorgeous floaty red dress and camelias in hair. Timeframe of the ballet is intriguing - it kinds of jumps forwards and backwards in time, and you're never quite sure where 'now' is.
First ballet I've seen where ballerina is nearly knocked out by bombard of flowers lobbed onto the stage, and equally where ballerina shares haul of flowers with her co-star! Forgiveness for being a cad on stage in action.
